Is there a difference between skiing off-piste and out-of-bounds?

ASFAIK "out of bounds" is US only concept that applies to areas that you are simply not allowed to ride, wheras "off piste" refers to areas where no one is going to stop you riding but you are on your own and can't expect the same kind of slope safety monitoring and rescue back up as on a prepared piste.
